Peregine Y'allllll

So. I'm just going to come right out and say it. Throughout my high school career and as far back as I can remember, I have never read a novel cover to cover. In fact, the only series of books I think I ever finished and enjoyed were The Clique Books... in 7th grade... and they were about a group of snotty girls from filthy rich families who ruled the private school and preyed upon girls who a) didn't flaunt the latest fashion trends b) had parents who weren't as rich as theirs c) rode in anything other than a Range Rover to school every morning d) weren't apart of the "clique" basically anyone who wasn't one of them. I suppose back then it fascinated me to see high school drama unfolded from the bully's point of view. I honestly do not know how I survived high school without completely reading all the summer reading books, famous poems, and novels we studied over the years in English class. I guess I can thank SparkNotes for that. On a more broad spectrum, I don't know how I got into JMU without the will to read. I suppose I slid under the radar on that one. ANYWAYS. On a more positive note, I did read Miss Peregrine's Home For Peculiar Children, cover to cover, every single page. I even read the Prologue!! Quite frankly, the only reason I did in the beginning was because I was absolutely terrified of GWRTC 103 and the stories I had been told of ruthless college professors and their harsh criticism and grading systems. "If you don't read, you will be eaten alive." Fortunately, I absolutely loved this novel. I really did. I even found myself getting incapsulated with the whole "each kid has a peculiar talent" idea. Jacob's struggles seemed real to me: the anxiety of choosing between two lives, barely escaping his death on a daily basis, the pressure to decode his Grandfather's last words. At one point, I got lost in the text thinking about if I had a peculiar talent somewhere, undiscovered thus far. This wasted about an hour's worth of reading. What can I say!? I'm a dreamerrrr. Then again, I'm pretty easily entertained when it comes to fiction. I guess I'm a child at heart still. However, for the first book I've read in a while, Peregrine was a great place to start. I think I might like reading again. :)
