I stumbled upon this quote from One Tree Hill, and I couldn't help but to think about Jacob and how he must have felt with both of his lives being thrown at him simultaneously. He had lived his "normal" human life for so long, being forced to accept his rich white kid stereotype. He had a job he didn't want or even need, had one friend, and was basically living out what his parents wanted him to become. When the peculiar children began showing him that his heart belonged with them, he didn't know what to feel. He had been unhappy, lost, and unnoticed for so long that it was overwhelming to feel wanted and belonging. For the first time, he was experiencing true happiness and it scared him. We all can relate to this, similar to the feeling when we first fall in love or find a group of true friends. We don't know how to respond because for the longest time, we have been mistreated. We don't think we deserve the kind of awestruck feeling that comes with being loved. I love this quote and what it says for Jacob. Anybody else feel the same?

  1. I feel the same! I really like this quote, so thanks for sharing it. I think it really does relate to the story very well. Do you think that it would also relate to Emma? She once really loved Abe and still did when Jacob came along but i got the feeling that she was miserable without him and when Jacob came along she seemed so happy and then even realized that she could love Jacob just as much as Abe but not even as a replacement. She even gave Abe up in the end and realized a new begining had started for her, so she left the photograph behind. I think it was a really kindhearted thing of her to do to show that one she diddnt need him anymore and two to show Jacob's dad that he had nothing to worry about and that his dad was extremly faithful to his mother. This quote even feels true to me as I came to JMU I feel like for once i have so many people around me that make me happy, I almost don't know how to take it in! :)

  2. Yes! I mean she had gone several decades without hearing from Abe or anyone from the future. We learn that she thinks about him daily and her heart is still broken; and, at first she is hesitant to let Jacob in because of the hurt she experienced in the past. However, as time passed, I do think she realized Jacob was the one person who made her happy again, due to the fact that he reminded her positively of Abe. It must have taken alot of courage to accept the fact that Abe was gone. However, it is inspirational that she was able to find happiness again close to home. :)
